DT Electric - Residential - Commercial

Electrician in Oregon City, OR

    Licensed Electricians Serving Oregon City

Finding an electrician in Oregon City, OR who knows what is behind the walls of a hundred-year-old house is a different problem than finding one who can wire a new garage. DT Electric does both, and we are in Oregon City and the surrounding county most weeks of the year.

Daniel and Kaitlynn Totten started the company in 2022 and still run it. Residential and commercial, phone answered 24/7, every electrician licensed in Oregon and working to current code. Permits pulled when the job calls for one.

    We’re known for:

    • Arrival windows we hold to
    • A number quoted before the work starts
    • Care taken with old plaster, hardwood, and finished walls
    • Honest calls on what needs replacing and what has life left

A single dead outlet and a full service upgrade get the same diagnosis process.

Electrical Services for Oregon City Homes

This is the oldest incorporated city west of the Rockies, and the wiring reflects it. Few places in Oregon ask more range out of an electrician. The McLoughlin Conservation District and the Canemah historic district hold some of the oldest houses in the state, many built before residential wiring standards existed. We still find knob and tube in attics up on the bluff, cloth-wrapped conductors gone brittle, ungrounded two-prong receptacles, and 60-amp fuse panels carrying loads nobody imagined in 1915. Knob and tube rewiring and an electrical panel upgrade are the two calls that come out of those neighborhoods most often.

Head east toward Beavercreek, Redland, and the acreage along Central Point Road and the job changes completely. Out there it is well pumps, long underground runs to a shop or barn, subpanels in outbuildings, and standby generators, because outages on those roads last longer. The subdivisions in Barclay Hills, Hillendale, and the South End sit in the middle: sound wiring that was never planned for a heat pump, a hot tub, and two cars charging overnight. Old house or open acreage, we find the cause before we price the fix.

Give Us a Call If You Notice Any of This

    • Lights dimming when a large appliance kicks on
    • A breaker that will not stay set
    • Warmth coming off a switch plate or receptacle cover
    • A burning, fishy, or hot-plastic smell near wiring
    • Browning or scorch marks around a plug
    • Buzzing or crackling inside the panel
    • A shock or tingle when touching an appliance
    • Half the house working and half of it dark
    • Round fuses instead of breakers
    • Ceramic knobs or fabric-covered wire visible in the attic or basement
    • Extension cords running permanently to things that should have outlets
    • A Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel label

    What We Work On

    • Rewiring – Knob and tube and deteriorated wiring replaced, done with respect for original finishes.
    • Electrical Panels – Fuse boxes and undersized or obsolete panels swapped for equipment that can actually carry the house.
    • Service Upgrades – More incoming capacity for homes still running what they were built with.
    • Generators – Standby installs and transfer switches for rural properties and anyone tired of long outages.
    • EV Charger Installs – Level 2 EV charger installation on a dedicated circuit, after a load calculation.
    • Electrical Outlets – Grounded replacements for two-prong receptacles, added outlets, GFCI and AFCI protection.
    • Whole-Home Surge Protectors – Panel-level protection against the spikes that arrive when power comes back.
    • Indoor and Outdoor Lighting – Fixtures, recessed cans, dimmers, driveway and security lighting for long rural approaches.
    • Hot Tubs and Saunas – Dedicated circuits, disconnects, and GFCI protection installed to code.
    • Remodeling – Kitchens, baths, basements, and additions in both historic and modern homes.
    • New Construction – Full wiring for new builds, shops, and ADUs.
    • Commercial Work – Storefronts, offices, and tenant spaces, including the older buildings downtown near Main Street.

Why Oregon City Homeowners Trust Us

Old houses punish shortcuts. A splice buried in a wall or a circuit patched instead of traced shows up again, usually at a worse time. We find the cause, show you what we found, and repair it properly the first time.

We also understand what it means to work inside a house somebody has spent years restoring. Drop cloths down, dust contained, holes kept small and patched where we can. Most of our work here comes from repeat customers and the neighbors they talk to.

Serving Oregon City, the Bluff, and Out Toward Beavercreek

We cover all of Oregon City and the county around it: downtown and the McLoughlin neighborhood, Canemah under the old-growth firs, Barclay Hills and Hillendale, the South End and Rivercrest, and the rural stretches out Redland and Beavercreek Road. That tree cover is a large part of why this area loses power the way it does. The February 2021 and January 2024 ice storms put much of Clackamas County in the dark for days, and generator and surge protection calls here have not slowed down since.

If the lights are out and the PGE map says the problem is yours, or something smells hot at midnight, we are the emergency electrician still picking up. No answering service, no waiting for business hours.
